Christmas Card Sorting

This is an idea I’ve borrowed from Mary Hawes of Going for Growth.

Firstly, you need to have versions of the Christmas story available from each gospel. An interesting way to do this could be to allocate a gospel to 4 people or pairs of people, and watch them work out which gospels have what. Each person could either read their own to themselves, or get each read aloud to everyone. Or if you feel confident, keep a finger in the page for reference and dive in to the sorting.

Then you gather a load of Christmas cards and sort them according to which gospel’s version of Jesus’ birth they depict. Of course, some won’t depict any. Some will depict a mixture. That’s the fun. The discussions and debate which go on which make for the best part. Why does a picture of a candle go with the story in Luke 2? What about John?
